Fun Activities for Students during the School Holidays

While there’s still a good number of weeks before the June School Holidays, it’s never too early to have activities planned for our young ones. On one hand, this break offers students a chance to enjoy their leisure time. On the other hand, for parents and educators, this time can also be valuable in promoting holistic development of their kids. That is where GroupAID can come in with our variety of workshops tailored to students’ interests, blending fun activities with valuable learning experiences.

Through Terrarium Making workshops offered by GroupAID, students can delve into the fascinating world of ecosystems while nurturing their creativity. Who knows? This could be the start of developing their own green thumbs. In our workshops, each participant is given a plant, the most crucial part of this terrarium making experience. They are also given different colored decorative sands that allows them to customize their terrarium to their liking.

Such a careful and precise endeavor can help develop a child’s concentration, allowing them to be fully immersed in the activity. Above the creative elements, GroupAID’s Terrarium Making workshops offers learning experience for students, not just about how to build it, but also learning about how ecosystems work (e.g., the water cycle) and how to care for their own terrariums.

GroupAID’s Balloon Sculpting Workshops offer a pop of creativity, where students transform ordinary balloons into whimsical creations. Under the guidance of skilled instructors, participants learn the art of twisting and shaping balloons into animals amidst many others. This activity also improves the fine motor skills of our young participants by encouraging hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and spatial awareness. Furthermore, as no one likes it when a balloon pops, this further incentivizes students to take extra care when twisting the balloons to ensure that doesn’t happen. This activity fosters not only artistic development but also boosts confidence as students can proudly showcase their unique designs at the end of it.

Everyone needs a pop of color in their lives! In our Bear Brick Acrylic Pour Workshop, students embark on a journey of self-expression by creating abstract art. When dealing with paint as a medium, most would expect to paint on a blank canvas. However, at GroupAID, participants are armed with a blank bear brick figurine with multiple vibrant colors.

Young participants are given the chance to customize their bear bricks to their liking by choosing which colors they prefer and the various splash patterns they can make use of. This will make each bear brick uniquely theirs. Having this free-form element of self-expression allows students to break away from a structured approach to life and embrace the messier side of creativity.

Why engage with GroupAID over the holidays?

As described above, our workshops guarantee our participants a fun and exciting time. In addition, students walk away with learning experiences a typical classroom does not provide them with but are equally important to their holistic development.

1.    Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

It may come as a surprise that our workshops require thinking from our participants, but there are so many variables when it comes to self-expression. A balloon might be one small twist away from popping, or an acrylic pour might not be as aesthetic as one would like. While our workshop facilitators will be there to support participants as much as possible, these are scenarios that require problem solving and adaptive thinking from participants.

2.    Building Self-Esteem

Engaging in hands-on activities and witnessing their creations come to life fosters a sense of accomplishment and pride, boosting students'’ self-esteem and confidence in their abilities. It has been found that being involved in the creative process of crafting one’s artistic works helps facilitate personal growth. In all our workshops, participants have the opportunity to leave with a beautiful product that they can be proud of.

3.    Cultivating Patience and Perseverance

From carefully tending to delicate plants in terrariums to mastering the intricate twists of balloon sculpting, students learn more than just fine motor skills. They also learn the value of patience and perseverance as they strive to achieve their creative vision. GroupAID’s workshops are not just about completing a piece of work, but more so about ensuring that our participants appreciate and enjoy every minute of it.

GroupAID's workshops offer a holistic approach to learning, seamlessly blending fun and education to create enriching experiences for students. Over the upcoming June holidays, students can have the chance to stimulate their curiosity, creativity, and collaborative skills.
