Once a viral sensation on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, slime first captured hearts with its vibrant colours, squishy texture and oddly satisfying appeal. Popular online creators like ogslimes and glitter.slimesofficial have amassed millions of views with their mesmerising slime videos. But even today, past its initial internet heyday, this sticky craft remains a timeless, hands-on activity enjoyed by all ages.
At Group AID, slime-making is the newest addition to our workshop lineup – designed to bring people together through accessible, engaging play. Here’s a look at how this humble craft is making a big impact in the communities we serve:
What is slime, and how is it made?

Slime is a squishy, tactile craft that comes in all shapes and forms. It’s created through a simple chemical reaction: When polyvinyl alcohol (commonly found in craft glue) meets an activator, the molecules bond together to form a stretchy, gooey polymer – aka, slime!
That’s the science – but from there, the possibilities are endless: Add colouring for a vibrant pop, clay for a fluffier feel, or even miniature charms for a personalised twist. Slime is a blank canvas that’s easy to customise and make uniquely your own.
Why do we love slime-making?
🎨 It’s creative.
No two slimes are alike! With countless ways to personalise through colours, textures and add-ins, participants can bring their imaginations to life and create slimes that reflect their personality. It’s an open-ended, hands-on activity that encourages playful self-expression.
😌 It’s calming.
The repetitive motions of stretching and kneading slime offer a relaxing sensory experience. Playing with slime can soothe busy minds and ease feelings of stress by promoting mindfulness and being present.
🙌 It brings people together.
Slime-making is approachable and enjoyable for all ages. Its interactive nature fosters collaboration and conversation – whether it's between peers, coworkers, or parents and children – making it a shared experience that can create lasting memories!
Slime-making in Action
Since launching our workshops, we’ve seen how slime-making has sparked meaningful moments of connection in different social groups. Here’s a glimpse into how we’ve brought it to life:

Recently, we brought slime-making to SG Care’s Care Together Family Day at Pasir Ris, a community initiative focused on mental wellness and family bonding. Our booth welcomed families from all walks of life to engage and recharge through hands-on fun!

We also facilitated a slime-making workshop for Shuqun Primary School’s Parent Support Group Appreciation Day. Parents had a go at making their own slime creations – many of them for the first time – and had a lively afternoon crafting alongside their children and peers.
Across our workshops, slime-making has given participants more than just a squishy keepsake. It’s opened up meaningful opportunities to spend quality time with loved ones and build shared memories that will stick long after the workshop ends.
